Demex Group / How Demex builds world-class gate automation | Part 2
The colour-coded signalling system in Demex gate automation is central to its ease of use. It is designed to be intuitive, allowing users to quickly identify the status of the gate without having to navigate through technical details or complex menus.
“When the system is inactive and the gates are stationary, the lights are switched off, serving both as an energy-saving measure and an indicator that the system is in sleep mode. When activated, for instance when the gates begin to move, the indicator changes colour to provide immediate visual feedback,” explains Demex automation expert Vlado Golemovic.
In standby mode, a white light is displayed, indicating that no errors have been detected and the system is ready to receive commands. A yellow light signals that a specific function is active, such as partial opening of the gates, which can be critical in certain applications. If the system displays a red light, this indicates a warning; a failure or interruption that requires immediate attention, suggesting that the system may need to be inspected.
“When the gates are fully open or closed and the system is functioning as expected, a green light is shown, clearly indicating that there are no issues with the gate’s movement or the system’s operation.”
Additionally, the audible alarm system provides an extra layer of security and usability, especially in environments where visual feedback may be inadequate due to poor visibility.
“Audible signals can be configured to alert users about the gates’ status, ensuring that any issues do not go unnoticed, thus contributing to a safer working environment.”
Demex gate automation is equipped with several important safety features that protect both users and equipment. One fundamental safety measure is pinch protection, which is crucial during both the opening and closing of the gate. This feature helps prevent injuries caused by the gate’s movement, ensuring a safe working environment.
“To enhance safety further, the gate automation system incorporates photocells, D-Loop functions, and ground loops. These technologies work together to protect against accidental contact with vehicles or people, contributing to safer operation.”
Another key component is the emergency stop, which allows the gate to halt immediately in the event of an emergency, helping to prevent serious injuries.
“Additionally, load monitors oversee the motors to protect them from overload, enhancing the long-term operational safety of the system,” notes Mr Golemovic.
To ensure optimal performance under varying conditions, Demex has implemented its D-Loop feature. This smart sensor puck, installed in the ground, detects the presence of vehicles on the road, preventing the gate from closing prematurely. With a battery life of at least five years in the Nordic climate, it ensures that the safety components remain reliable over time.
“By combining these innovative safety measures, Demex is able to offer products that not only protect against pinch risks and overloads but also ensure robust and durable operation in challenging environments.”
